The 6th Gemfields Retail Jeweller India Awards 2010 were

presented in Mumbai recently. Among the participants were India’s leading jewelry houses like Tanishq, Anmol, Amrapali, Farah Khan Ali, Mira Gulhati, Minawala,  et al. With IMRB as the independent process auditor and an eminent jury panel, the Gemfields Awards have become the benchmark for industry recognition. The jury members this year were fashion designer Anita Dongre, Forevermark MD Binita Cooper, Vogue editor Priya Tanna, socialite Queenie Singh, actor Tisca Chopra, Platinum Guild country manager Vaishali Banerjee, and FICCI Gems and Jewellery co-chairman Prasad Kapre.

Along with online judging, this year for the first time the awards introduced a specialized physical judging round of the nominated creations to make the judging process more comprehensive. Out of 700 pan-India entries competing for the top slot only 120 got an opportunity to impress the grand jury. The 120 nominated pieces have been screened through a rigorous 2-tier selection process

Over the years, these have become the most coveted, prestigious and sought-after awards for the Indian retail jewelry industry. For the first time, the awards introduced a category, ‘Jewelry Style Icon of the Year’, awarded to the one personality who has made the most significant impact wearing distinct bold designs combined with an inherent sense of high fashion. This year it was awarded to Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. The awards aim at creating an opportunity for retailers to celebrate the creative and business success in various segments of jewelry retailing such as product design and marketing and at promoting the culture of excellence in the $20 billion Indian retail jewelry industry.
