As slowdown fears ebb, many apparel retailers are mulling plans

to increase their pan-India presence. Hasbro Clothing, a leading men’s garment and accessories producer is one of them. The company plans to ramp up its store count by adding 25 more ‘Basics Life’ stores in the next fiscal (2010-11).

The Hasbro collection offers men’s clothing under three brands, Basics 029, Genesis and Probase. Currently it operates 50 stores, out of which 28 are franchisee-owned and the rest are company-owned exclusive brand outlets.

The 25 new stores being planned will be spread over four states in the south, apart from Maharashtra and West Bengal. They will come up in Tier I and Tier II cities of these states.

The objective behind opening the standalone stores is to offer a lifestyle solution to men in the branded apparel space. Hasbro’s primary aim is to provide value to the customer and not necessarily in the conventional manner that is at lower prices. Rather they plan to offer an experience which is clearly world class.

Meanwhile, the company also has plans to spread its wings overseas. Hasbro is planning to launch a 1,200 sq. ft. franchisee store in Qatar in the next two months. It may be noted that they already have stores in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, where they have a sizeable export business.
