Hollywood beauties take to Indian designs

Increasingly a number of international celebs are flaunting

works by Indian designers at various social dos. Now designer Amit Gupta has joined the list of Indian designers who have dressed up global celebs. His label Amit GT was chosen by actresses Alicia Minshew and Kate Mansi at the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, while Eva Longoria wore Amit GT dress for Step Up Women’s Inspiration Awards. Chloe Webb wore a stately black duchesse satin gown for Critic’s Choice Awards. Holland Roden wore a beige peplum dress for her movie premiere. Diasy Fuentes, Morena Baccarin and Whitney Cummings have worn Amit GT’s clothes for various red carpet events.

Busy promoting his brand internationally, Amit Gupta is opening his first boutique at The Westin in Gurgaon in a few months followed by more stores in India and abroad. In the past, icons like Britney Spears and Katy Perry were greatly influenced by Indian fashion. Suneet Verma was roped in by American luxury brand Judith Leiber to design its international collections in 2009 and he continues to create an Indianised line for the brand.

Manish Arora was roped in as creative-artistic director for Spanish brand Paco Rabanne in February, later, Gaga walked in his Paco Rabanne design to collect her trophy at the MTV European Music Awards. And his another creation, a psychedelic skin tight outfit was worn by supermodel Heidi Klum for a TV show in July and Mischa Barton endorsed Ritu Kumar’s ankle length flared dress with dorri work from her pret line Label. Even on home turf, Indian designers Tarun Tahiliani and Rocky S designed for Lady Gaga and socialite Paris Hilton during their visit to India. The Black Eyed Peas singer, Fergie dressed in an electric blue and black short number by Indian design label Falguni and Shane Peacock for the American Music Awards. Fergie is not the only one to have endorsed Shane and Peacock design, the list includes big names from Hollywood and international music like Cheryl Cole, Madonna, and Katy Perry.
