The 30th India Knit Fair is being held in Tirupur, the knitwear capital of India, from April 21 to 23, 2010.
It’s the biggest exposition on knitted garments. The fair attracts buyers/importers from all over the world including buying agents/houses representing important buyers and chain stores abroad. As is known from the past record, the fair has already attained prominence in the global arena. It offers a wide variety of knitted apparel products and cotton, blended garment and high-fashion trendy women’s dresses, knitted T-shirts, skirts, blouses, et al. Over the years, there has been a gradual shift from low budget to medium/high budget garments in the fair.
The significance of the fair has been growing over the years as most global players are eyeing India as one of the key suppliers of textiles and clothing in the post quota scenario. With improved technology, Tirupur has overcome limitations like shrinkage and torque in knitted fabrics/garments and this has opened more opportunities.
The textile ministry also plans to come up with packages to help exporters to look at Asian counties in an attempt to diversify beyond the traditional western market. Also, diversification from cotton-based knitwear products to apparels made of man-made fibers is the need of the hour for the knitwear garment exporters to ensure round-the-year business. Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is in the process of setting up the Knitwear Technology Mission in Tirupur. The objective is to help the exporting community go in for wider range of products in different kinds of fabrics to a larger market. Also, the India Knit Fair Association is offering 50 per cent discount for outstation participants in the open category this year.
