Indian e-tailers expect apparel sales to grow in 2013

With an increase in demand for online shopping for

apparels and recent research reports suggesting a boom in e-commerce especially in apparels, e-retailers in the country are foreseeing a boost in apparel sales by the end of 2013. Leading e-retailers are buoyant about the seasons ahead owing to an increasing in demand based on reach, comfort, convenience and access of the portals.

According to the recent Google India Trends Report, online queries for fashion and lifestyle products are on the rise and will overtake search for electronics in 2013. India customers are waking up to the e-commerce phenomenon and now even male customers are increasingly logging onto online shopping sites to make apparel purchases. Growing awareness in Tier II, III towns is also adding to the overall enthusiasm.

For instance, about 55 per cent of the business on Myntra.com is driven from beyond top 10 cities at present due to the reach and access provided by this platform. Further, features like cash-on-delivery (COD) and EMI schemes are also attracting a lot of new shoppers to the e-commerce industry. Another shopping portal, Snapdeal.com is also expecting a four-fold increase in clothing sales through online platform by the end of financial year 2013-14.
