JJ Valaya opens bric-a-brac store

Top designer JJ Valaya has set new trends in Indian fashion. And this time he has done it once

more by opening a store in Delhi to give his customers all they want on their special day. JJ Valaya Life, is his splashy 10,000 sq. ft. store in New Delhi, it houses not just his couture and prêt lines, but also showcases home décor items. JJ Valaya Life is a high-end experience for people who want luxury while shopping for their trousseaux. Bespoke bridal outfits start at Rs 14 lakh. The Home of the Traveler Line consists of artifacts that Valaya has collected during his travels worldwide like vases, large stone busts, tribal carpets and tapestries. There are glass light installations like large glass bulbs and beakers, some encased in metal frames. Moreover, there’s a line of Alika jackets--a cross between shirts and jackets that can be worn over pants, skirts, lehengas and even with saris. Every month, the pattern and color will change, but some salient features, such as the silhouette, the side flap slits, the raglan sleeves and the yoke on the back, will remain trademark styles.

Valaya was the first designer to host a solo fashion show in India. The brand JJ Valaya was launched in 1991. This was followed by Valaya Home in 1996 and a prêt label Studio Valaya in 1999. In September 2006, the house of Valaya entered into a licensing agreement with Genesis Color to design and manufacture its diffusion label Valaya Quantum. Valaya is one of India’s most respected fashion houses. It not only caters to fashion lovers, but also provides a whole lot of luxury products, such as furniture, tapestries, stunning fabrics and home furnishings, apart from cuisine.
