Whether it is khadi towels, the Gandhi lamp, wooden bowls, or clothes made out of this fabric,

simplicity and minimalism has always been in vogue. Of late, khadi has gained massive popularity across the globe and has become haute couture this season. Neilson from Khadi & Co, Paris says that Mahatma Gandhi’s fabric of compassion is making a big global statement this fall. Tourists from all over the world especially Japan and Italy are now realizing the great beauty of hand-spun khadi. Its unique flexibility that keeps you warm in winter and fresh in summer has led to its popularity.

Unlike other stores in Europe which are known for its fancy silks, cashmere or designer clothes, Danish textile designer Bess Neilsen’s Khadi & Co located at one of the chic streets in Paris is doing good business with its khadi products. It offers an exotic range of khadi kurtas, tunics, trousers, shawls, scarves and waistcoats that have become the fashion among the Parisians and those visiting the city.
In the US, fashion designer Christina Kim’s shop Dosa which sells high-end khadi clothes has already made few Hollywood stars her fans. Kim’s clients include biggies like Jennifer Aniston and Michelle Obama. Recently, Indian fashion designer Gaurang Shah who elevated khadi’s image significantly at his show at Berlin Fashion Week is now on his way for another khadi special this November at New York Fashion Week. In London’s Conran shop, Abraham & Thakore offers khadi cushions with the unique desi charm.
