Koutons Retail looks beyond India

Koutons Retail India plans to open around 200 stores in FY11 in addition to its existing 1,400

stores spread all over India. The company is also considering opening stores in the Middle East and South East Asia in the next fiscal. According to Koutons General Manager (Sales and Marketing) Akash Deep Sandhu, the company is focusing more on their family concept stores which was introduced last year. They are looking to opening 100 family stores that will have garments, accessories and shoes for men, women and kids. The stores would be opened through the franchise route.

The company is moving from the men’s wear model to the family concept model as it creates a bigger shopping basket. Sandhu adds last year, the company was in a wait-and-watch mode but this year as the market is opening up, they expect a correction in rentals by 20-30 per cent, this will help them consolidate and grow. He also added that banks were still tight in lending to the retail sector, adding to it the firm has not yet set a capex for the next fiscal.
