The Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) is planning to introduce a store

at Belgaum in Karnataka since the response to KSIC exhibitions in Belgaum has been overwhelming. With increase in demand for its products like saris, it now sells them by launching own outlets instead of going to the dealers. At present KSIC has 16 outlets in various parts of the state.

The response for Mysore silk products has led to the decision of launching an outlet in Belgaum. To cater to the middle and lower class, KSIC plans to manufacture soft silk clothes in Channapatna by making its defunct factory operational. The government has already sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the project and the Board has approved the same. If plans fall in place then it will be set up by the end of this year.

The KSIC organised a three-day exhibition-cum-sale of Mysore silk products at Kannada Sahithya Bhavan, Channamma Circle recently. It showcased a collection of designer crepe, Kasuthi, georgettes and printed saris, kurtis, scarves and ties. KSIC has obtained Geographical Indication Registration for Mysore silk.
