KVIC optimistic on FDI’s role in boosting khadi sales

During the announcement of khadi rebate scheme from

October 2 till the end of next March, Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) President Devendra Desai said that government’s FDI policy will boost sales of khadi products in domestic as well as international markets. He further added that FDI in retail would also lead to healthy competition among domestic as well as global players helping the country’s economy.

The KVIC has been organizing several exhibition-cum-sales event in different international locations and has received positive response in Brazil and France. KVIC expects khadi item exports to rise from around Rs 70 crores to around Rs 200 crores with their initiatives.

Desai also appreciated Gujarat government’s announcement of 10 per cent rebate on khadi material produced within the state. He informed that the Saurashtra Rachnatmak Samiti has fixed a target of selling khadi products worth Rs 60 million in Gujarat during the current year.

It has also associated with India’s prominent designing institutes like NID and NIFT to promote khadi items popular by producing innovative designer khadi apparel.
