Lilliput Kidswear has started releasing dues of its Bangladeshi

vendors after nearly two years, following negotiations between the two governments. The announcement was made at a meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Working Group on trade in New Delhi recently.

“Both sides agreed that there is a need to involve the respective chambers of commerce to come to an agreement for joint resolution or arbitration of commercial disputes,” says the summary record of the meeting. During the meeting, the Indian side informed that the first installment amounting to 21,520 dollars (Rs 12,72,800), out of the total around 5.0 million dollars (Rs 29 crores) pending payment, has been released by Liliput Kidswear. The Bangladesh side reiterated its request for expediting all pending payments to 22 local vendors.

A five-member Bangladeshi delegation, led by Shawkat Ali Waresi, joint secretary of the ministry of commerce, took part in the 8th meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Working Group on trade. Most of the payments of the exporters were supposed to be cleared by October-November 2011, according to the exporters.
