French luxury brand Louis Vuitton is planning to expand its

India footprint by opening bigger-size stores in the country. From its five stores, two in Mumbai and one each in Bangalore and Chennai, the company that entered the market in 2003, claims to have witnessed double digit growth in the last 10 years.

Much like many other global luxury brands, who have sighted lack of right high street locations as a hurdle to their India entry, Louis Vuitton too feels the same. Due to lack of good high street retail destinations, the brand has been finding it difficult to open new stores to spread its presence.

In 2010, the company had to close its boutique in The Oberoi, Delhi, it’s first store in the country with an aim to set up stores outside hotels, where footfalls are higher. It then shifted to luxury mall DLF Emporio and last year, opened a high-street boutique on Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Chennai. Plans are afoot to introduce the exclusive Haute Maroquinerie service in India, which allows clients to customise bags, once it is able to open spacious stores in the country. Currently, the service is available in only 15 global stores.
