An award-winning student of Pearl Academy of Fashion,
designer Manish Gupta has gained instant recognition for his collection with cut, colour scheme, texture, embellishment, silhouette and finish bearing stamp of a veteran. Having interned and worked with renowned designers like Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal and Abhishek & Nandita Basu before launching his own label, Gupta unveiled his latest offering Primrose at Collage, Greams Road, in Chennai recently.A Primerose is the first bloom of spring and it fascinates the designer, Gupta feels that it is the way the beautiful flower paints nature’s canvas with pleasing hues after a barren winter. “Creatively speaking, floral motifs offer unlimited possibilities. Its delicate petals and wide palette ranging from peach to soft shades of yellow open up a whole new world of inspiration,” he says.
The collection is a work of cutwork, lace, tapes and beads. Organza flowers are a highlight of the collection that includes dresses and gowns. Handcrafts have been used painstakingly to create the effect of a 3-D tapestry. The styling is feminine and deliberately simple to offset the intricacy of the textures and needlework. There is a mix of fabrics and craft techniques on each garment. The fabrics include georgette, silk, cotton and silk cotton.
Apart from displaying his creations through fashion houses across India and shows abroad, Gupta also works with a store in London and is looking at expanding his presence in the European countries.
