‘Modernise or perish,’ says K S Rao at ATDC conclave

Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest

vocational training provider for apparel industry, under the aegis of AEPC hosted the ATDC skill conclave in Gurgaon recenetly. Panelists from the Ministry of Textiles, All India Council for Technical Education, Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), Planning Commission, AEPC and apparel industry to deliberated on the importance of skill development in shaping the future of apparel sector.

In his inaugural address K S Rao, Union Minister of Textile said ‘Modernise or perish’ need to become the motto of the apparel industry today. “I do hope that the ATDC Skill Conclave will throw up more ideas for the industry to adopt,” he emphasised. He also released the new AICTE & NCVT approved curricula for garment and fashion sectors at the conclave.

The ATDC conclave witnessed a major landmark in the area of skill development for the apparel sector with release of key course curricula documents, AICTE approved curricula for National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) system in Garment & Fashion Sector and National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) approved curricula for apparel and fashion sector under the two major regulatory bodies of government of India, guiding the entire education and training sector. Both the committees under the chairmanship of Darlie Koshy, DG&CEO of ATDC & IAM have done exceptional work in a short time to prepare the curricula documents which have been adopted by the AICTE and the NCVT/DGET which are expected to transform the quality of skill development in the country.
