Designer duo Mona Lamba and Pali Sachdev, together known as Monapali, are among the

very few fashion designers in the country who make costumes for the mid-level segment and do prêt. They have opened an exhibition in Kolkata, Fashion on Canvas, where art lovers can witness a rare mix of cultures and deities of India as abstracted into designer ensembles. Monapali has exclusive stores in Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Delhi and also retails through Ffolio, Mogra, Samsara, Rudraksh, Isshka, Anonymous, Elahi, Colours of India etc.

They were among the first few designers to hit the catwalk more than a decade ago. In 1987, they launched their boutique Monapali in Kolkata. Their clothes range from casuals to heavy formals and are a mix of design elements most of which are inspirations from the ethnic cultural roots of India. What makes the designs distinctly Monapali is an unconventional mix of mediums be it in textures, textiles, prints or embroidery. They were the ones who revived kantha, folk tribal motifs and the alpana from the realms of oblivion and elevated them to the status of haute couture culture.
