Mumbai 28th among fashion hot spots

London has been emerged as the top fashion capital

of the world according to a survey conducted by Global Language Monitor. New York stands second followed by Paris, Milan and Los Angeles. India’s fashion capital Mumbai ranks 28 and two rungs lower is New Delhi. London has taken the top spot mainly due to Kate Middleton’s style when she wed Prince William earlier this year and her sister Pippa Middleton who shimmered in an Alexander McQueen dress. Berlin and Singapore broke into the top 10 position for the first time since the survey began eight years ago.

Global Language Monitor is based in Texas and analyzes the latest trends in word usage and their cultural impact by tracking the Internet, blogs, social media sites such as Twitter and 75,000 print and electronic media. The list was expanded to 50 cities this year to recognize the growth of regional capitals with their distinctive styles and contributions to the fashion industry. The results were collected from a system that tracks the frequency and appearance of words and phrases used in global print, electronic and social media.
