At a dinner at the White House America’s First Lady Michelle Obama wore an ivory, sleeveless,

floor-length gown designed by Indian-born American designer Naeem Khan. The gown was embellished with silver beads, white sequins and metallic thread in a geometric pattern. Khan also designed the gown Michelle Obama wore to the first state dinner she and President Barack Obama hosted for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2009. He has already dressed Michelle Obama for at least five public events.

Since launching his own line in 2003, his designs have been adorned by the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Carrie Underwood, Eva Longoria and Brooke Shields. His collections are sold at over 100 specialty stores across the world. In 2008, the designer was inducted as a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America. His fashion statements are quirky and a little flamboyant. He conveys sophistication and his clothes are alive, classics but tweaked. Glitz and glamour are always key to a Khan’s collection. And in spring 2001 he gave it a safari twist with, for instance, a gold-embroidered beige linen dress or a jacket over a nude tulle skirt. He also offered embroidered tanks and miniskirts; short embroidered T-shirt dresses and some flirty little printed minis. Khan migrated to the US to attend school when he was 20. Later, became an assistant for the iconic minimalist designer Halston.
