Best-known for its traditional Kancheepuram silk saris, Nalli, will soon venture into

gold jewellery business by housing a jewellery line. Nalli Silk Sarees, which has since 1928 been steeped in the sari business, is diversifying into the gold business, and is set to launch its jewellery collection.

Since heavy silk saris are chosen as the best option during weddings, and gold jewellery enhances the beauty of silk saris, the company decided to offer gold jewellery collection through exclusive stores. Ramnath Nalli is the brainchild behind this new venture. The first jewellery store will open on September 19, 2012.

Beginning with gold and silver jewellery, the brand will follow it up with diamond and platinum jewellery. Their flagship store in Chennai will be the company’s largest, and Nalli has plans to set up stores across south India depending upon the response in the first year.

After trying its hand at readymade garments and accessories, which could not take off beyond the company’s store in Chennai, this is for the second time that Nalli is trying to do a business beyond their original silk sari venture. And though gold rates are touching new heights, the company is positive about success of the new beginning.
