National textile seminar highlights issues facing the industry

The Textile Association (India) recently organized the ‘National
Textile Seminar – 2013’ in New Delhi to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee Year Celebration of the association. A B Joshi, Textile Commissioner, to the government of India was the chief guest and Shekhar Agarwal, Group Vice Chairman, LNJ Bhilwara Group was the guest of honour.The inaugural session saw a wide mix of audience from stakeholders in the textile value chain to top organizations and people from academia. Themed ‘Propelling Growth Through Innovation’, the seminar started with a welcome address by Sudhish Aggarwala, Chairman, NTS-2013. He urged the participants to deliberate and discuss how this industry can further contribute to our economy. In his Presidential address, R K Vij, President, TA (I)-Delhi reinforced that the seminar had been organized with the aim of providing a common platform for the industry stakeholders to get knowledge about latest innovations and developments in the sector.
Anil Gupta, National Vice President, TA (I) highlighted the various objectives and activities of the Textile Association (India) emphasizing on different activities they organizes for the benefit of industry. He also urged the Textile Commissioner, link government's NAREGA scheme with employment in textile industry so that Indian textile industry could survive ongoing labour crisis.
The event also recognised dignitaries from the textile industry for their outstanding achievements. A series of seminars, followed by discussions on various issues facing the textile industry also took place. The topics included: expectations of the industry from the government, inter sector squabbles, achievement of higher value addition to the end products, labour shortage among others.
