Consider it as a tribute to the fashion sensibilities of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s former prime minister.
Designer Pawan Sachdeva’s new collection has stylized Nehru and khadi jackets. The distinctive feature about the Nehru jacket is the Mandarin collar. The jacket has been given a formal look, and is embellished with silky inner linings and buttons. Detailed printed silken fabrics, lined on the inside and used in the pocket square, add a younger feel to the jackets. The jackets have been complemented with polos, jodhpurs and regular tapered trousers. The Nehru jacket was one element of Indian dress that penetrated western dress. Today, this jacket is again getting prominence and is becoming a symbol of those who are in power. That is why its also known as minister jacket.Solid to printed shirts are added along with the jackets for a proper co-ordination to give a polished formal flare to the entire attire. So fond of the Nehru jacket is Sachdeva that he wears one. This is one designer who custom makes men’s wear with a touch of class and sophistication. His spring/summer 2011 range has various shades of white for which he has used fabrics like pure linens, pure cottons, matka silks, khadi and khadi silks. What he likes about white is that it is a versatile color that can be used for casual/formal wear.
