Innovation is the key for any designer and with each collection

they try to be different and grab eyeballs of consumers. Renowned fashion designer Nida Mahmood has done just that with her latest collection where she has used matchboxes to create eye catching designs.

At her recent show even the set was designed with matchboxes. Models walked the ramp in multi-headed masks on a stage piled up with cartons of matchboxes in one corner. In a way she was paying tribute to these little matchboxes, which have the power to destroy everything in a moment. The latest collection of the designer included fluid trousers to complement the asymmetrical tops and tunics. These are targeted for the oncoming spring/summer. She offers an interesting mix and match style by combining chiffon saris with jeans and corsets. Her models were wearing the saris over short dresses, narrow legged trousers, corsets and even jeans. Each piece in her collection had a matchbox motif starting from a bicycle, a truck, a stereo tape or an auto-rickshaw. The designer explored a new side of creativity.

Nida’s collection saw a western take in terms of silhouettes. There were breezy tunics with shorts, off-shoulder dresses, combat shrug jackets, asymmetric tops and tunics. She used mostly the rhombus shape, which is again inspired from the strike of a match box. The prints on her collection included radio, lotus, bicycle, owl, concentric hearts, and a bird. Some others had renowned Bollywood faces, electrical appliances and transport objects.
