NIIFT hosts Anukama '11

Fashion graduates from the Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) presented their
creations at a recent show Anukama. There were 61 collections -- made from wovens, knits, khadi, silk, cotton, crochet work, leather and digital printing. The event, Anukama ’11 is an annual design collection show put together by the graduating students of Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Mohali in Chandigarh. Aimed at nurturing and promoting new talent in the Indian fashion industry, Anukama ’11 provides a platform for students to unveil their best creations. Each design presented is unique in its own way.Besides the clothes show, over 28 models walked the ramp adding to the glamour quotient of the show. Choreographer Kaushik Ghosh’s team included models Shreya Kishore, Sahiba Singh, Tina Chatwal Ricky Walia, Aman and Deepak among many others. Through colors, materials, finishes and techniques, students expressed individual statements as design solutions. Working on the theme `black beauty`, Huma Naaz designed evening gowns. While Daisy Sharma named her collection that was inspired by butterflies as `Maitreyi`, the textures and colors of Loveena Gupta’s designs were based on birds. Tanya Nagpal named her theme `carnival of dreams` and made evening gowns that were easy to wear and carry.
Established in 1995, NIIFT, Mohali offers various courses catering to the needs of the garment industry. The courses include: fashion design, textile design and fashion marketing and management.
