Aptly called as ‘The Madras Project’, Divya and Navya Niranjan’s Spring/Summer collection

includes lungi skirts, Tollywood star Rajinikanth’s dialogues printed saris, Malli-poo cotton trousers that are synonymous with the city of Madras (Chennai). The line was displayed at Silkworm boutique in Nungambakkam, Chennai.

Prior to the launch of their brand, Blueprint, a couple of years ago Divya was a playschool teacher with no inclination towards fashion design. It all started when she got a chance of creating an attire for a friend’s wedding. She realised her passion for designing clothes and then there was no looking back.

And now with The Madras Project, with inputs from her sister Navya, the duo has already bagged a couple of international orders, via their Facebook page. Beyond the distinct design motifs, nearly every one of the 28 pieces having global appeal has one quintessentially Chennai element woven in – the sari. Moving on, the sisters have decided to design part II of the series as their Autumn/Winter 2013 offerings.
