In a bid to pay respect to India through design, Amrit Kumar

and Mriga Kapadiya, who moved to Toronto in 2009, have launched Norblack Norwhite, an e-store to explore disappearing Indian textile art forms like dyeing and weaving techniques. They are trying to re-interpret these ancient practices of textile design, which has earned them fashion credibility. By reinventing these techniques and textile crafts, the duo has been transforming them into colourful daywear. With the new online store, they aim to reach out to global customers.

The web collection consists of exclusive outerwear range including BomBombers, reversible bomber jackets that have fluorescent bandhani on one side and a bright monotone on the other and Masai jackets made from fabric sourced in Kenya and maroon ikat-printed shirts.

Their line has retailed in Creatures of Comfort New York, Los Angeles, Bombay Electric, Anthropologie and boutiques in Japan, Portugal, San Francisco, Australia and more. Having been featured in Wallpaper, Asos, Fashion Television and Vogue India, they were also selected by Frida Gianinni (Creative Director of Gucci) as her favourite young designers from India.
