Now Kolkata gets two fashion weeks

Kokata which got to witness its first fashion week in 2009,

will host two fashion weeks this February, much like Delhi. The reason: a rift in the ramp managers’ ranks. The two shows -- Kolkata Fashion Week (KFW) Season 3 and Kolkata Fashion & Lifestyle Week (KFLW) Season 1 -- will be hosted in the same month.
Last September, after the commencement of the Kolkata Fashion Week, the two organizers Mindscapes Maestros Events & Sports Management had parted ways. One of the co-directors of the company, Yudhajit Dutta, split because of “a difference in opinion”. Dutta will now be hosting KFLW at PC Chandra Greens — the scene of KFW 1 — under the Purple People Entertainment banner, from February 23 to 28. The dates for KFW are yet to be confirmed, but a clash on the calendar seems imminent.
Prateek Sen, co-founder and co-director of Mindscapes Maestros, confirmed that they would host KFW 3 at a five-star property. According to him, unlike the last two seasons, this time KFW will be a trade event with shows being held only in the afternoons.
Dutta has already got 36 designers for his show. However, KFW is not giving any numbers out yet. While KFLW has lured away backstage teams and choreographers, KFW promises to have all the big ramp stars. Indeed, city designers too are divided on the fashion week. While Monapali say both organizers have approached them, Kiran Uttam Ghosh is wary of fashion week fatigue.
