If things go according to the plan, then Ahmedabad will have

a technical textile plant to be set up by NTC. Out of the 12 technical textile plants across the country, National Textile Corporation (NTC) is considering setting up one of the three mills that are yet to be revived in Ahmedabad. According to officials, since they are planning to set up 12 such plants across the country, most likely one of them would be in Ahmedabad. They are currently conducting a techno-economic analysis of developing technical textiles plants in verticals like geo textiles, medical textiles and industrial textiles. However, the final decision is pending with the board.

While several mills in the country were auctioned recently, three mills in Ahmedabad -- Rajnagar Mills, Viramgram Mills and Petlad Mills -- are yet to be auctioned or modernized. Sources say, the Ministry of Textiles and NTC are planning to set up textile plants on a public private partnership (PPP). So far 18 companies around the world have shown their interest in the project after NTC invited expression of interests (EoIs). Out of the 18 companies, six are from India while the rest are from countries like France, UK, US, Japan and Germany. The Board is now examining capability and accountability of these parties before referring finalised names to the Ministry of Textiles and BIFR who will take a final call.
