After getting rave reviews for his collection at the Prime Dubai exhibition, Omar Sait’s garment brand Aliph, was invited to

display his collection at the 2014 Oscars. However he couldn’t make it to the event. Now, the brand from Chennai would be showcasing at the Cannes Film Festival.

Aliph is the first brand from Tamil Nadu to receive an invite to Cannes. Sait belongs to a family, which has been into the clothing business for the last 107 years. In 1991, his father Rafiq Sait started Gatsby, which has now been re-launched again focusing on bespoke and premium products. Last year, they launched Aliph. Working hard along with his team of designers from the Gatsby showroom, the 110 pieces of menswear are ready in cloth bags bearing the Festival De Cannes logo.

He would be accompanied by Kaushik, the main designer of the brand. The Cannes collection has Intrecciato weaves, running stitches, paint stroke embroidery and innovative lapel designs, all hand-crafted outfits mostly in black and white with a few in cobalt blue and charcoal grey.

Aliph label is popular among the bigwigs of south film industry. From Kamal Haasan (who has been wearing suits by Gatsby/Aliph for the last three IIFA Awards), Prabhu Deva, Simbu, Jeeva, Anirudh Ravichander and even cricketer R Ashwin are their loyal customers.
