Palam Silks to redefine traditional silk sari

Palam Silks, which was launched in 2003 by Jeyashree Ravi,

daughter of Nalli Kuppuswamy Chettiar known for the famous Nalli Silks of Chennai is targeting big time growth. The brand now wants to spread its wings in Bangalore and double its turnover to Rs 100 crores in the next three years. It may be noted that Nalli Silks which started in the 1900s as a small sari shop, has grown manifolds today to become a Rs 550 crores business with stores all over India and in Singapore and the US. Being the daughter of such an illustrious businessman, Ravi opted to start her own creation rather than helping her father in the family-run business and hence started Palam Silks.

Palam Silks is targeted at the younger and more modern customer. Today, it has tasted success and is around Rs 50 crores business with stores across Coimbatore. Ravi says she brand plans to open two-to-three stores a year and in another 15-18 months, it is expected to reach Rs 100 crores turnover. To turn this projection into a reality, Jeyashree’s 24-year-old daughter Suneeta, an aspiring chartered accountant and a designer at heart is lending assistance. The mother-daughter duo, desire to make the traditional Kancheepuram silk sari appeal to the younger generation. They are also looking to stock other types of saris that are unique in their stores.
