A known face among Mumbai’s fashion lovers,

Delhi-based designer Pranavi Kapur’s is holding an exhibition of her collection titled ‘Threads of Identity’ at The Fine Art Company, Bandra West. The exhibition is on till March 13, 2013 as a part of India Design Week. The collection offers a mix of saris, odhanis and salwars. After the exhibition, the works will be on display at the India Design Forum (IDF) on March 15 and 16 at the National Centre of Performing Arts, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Though not formally trained from any design institute, Kapur is known for her work in reviving textile traditions, for which she won the National Award for Fashion Design and Textile Preservation in 1999, presented by NIFT and the textile industry. She has worked with Banjaras from Hyderabad and helped them exhibit and sell their designs at the Cottage Industries.

While some of her designs are restored, the others are known for the use of multiple textile techniques in creating new designs. For instance, she makes Khatris from Bhuj to work on Ikat loom of Andhra Pradesh for Bandhani and then gets it embroidered from an artiste from Bengal. Her designs focus on contemporary cuts.
