Puneet Nanda of Satya Paul has taken a three-month break, prompting rumors that there maybe a leadership change. The MD of Genesis Colors, and the man behind India’s premium brand, is also a connoisseur of art and music. He says he is taking this break “for meditation to explore some peace in life.” The maverick designer took over the reins of designing for the Satya Paul collection after the octogenarian designer Satya Paul retired. However, Nanda wanted to quit as the Creative Director of Satya Paul in September 2010. His partner Jyoti Narula explains, Nanda is a very creative person and needs a break and these three months should not be seen as a jolt to the brand. The team at Satya Paul is working hard on future plans and is sketching out a blue print to take the brand ahead. Narula says they are making sure that the brand doesn’t lose its grip on the market.
Satya Paul, one of the oldest brands in the Indian fashion industry, was acquired by Genesis Colors and Puneet Nanda was the chief designer of all collections. Satya Paul’s famous printed saris, neckties, scarves and designer Indian wear are not only selling well in metros but also do well in smaller cities across India. Satya Paul is truly the success story of an indigenous fashion brand. At the September 2010 Lakmé Fashion Week, Puneet Nanda presented a bridal tarot line, which was a combination of the tarot concept and bridal apparel. Tarot symbols like Empress, Wands, Lovers and Chariots were the inspiration behind the collection and were presented on dazzling saris and bridal apparel. The collection was a hit.
