Fashion designer Rahul Mishra, who bagged the International Woolmark Prize (IWP) in

Milan earlier this year, has unveiled his award-winning designs in Sydney. His six-piece collection is inspired by the work of graphic artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. The collection will be sold through the David Jones store in Sydney.

The collection is made up of lightweight Merino wool having intricate hand embroidery, reflecting the life cycle of wool from its natural state to the final designs. It will be stocked in Australia by David Jones, and will retail internationally through Harvey Nichols in London, Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, 10 Corso Como in Milan, Colette in Paris, Joyce in Hong Kong, Isetan Mitsukoshi in Japan and online at mytheresa.com.

What’s unique about his designs, apart from them being made of merino wool is that they are hand-made by the workers at his factory in India. His aim is to create opportunities for talented peoples from the country, for which he has decided to slow down the process of making a garment so that he can employ more people. As of now, his business supports 500 families across India, who weave his designs, which are then assembled and tailored at a single factory unit.
