Sabyasachi Mukherjee known for his designer wear

worldwide is plunging into another form of art. An exhibition of his paintings is scheduled to be held at Mehboob Studio in a Mumbai soon. Moving away from exhibiting at the art gallery, the designer has decided to create the sets and design at the venue himself to make it look like an old decadent Bohemian restaurant. Other than working on his paintings currently, he is ready with the film script.

After dressing up socialites and Bollywood celebrities over a decade, the designer will now make the common woman’s dreams come true. He is helping brides look beautiful on a NDTV Good Times’ TV show ‘Band Baajaa Bride with Sabyasachi’. His wedding saris and a range of specially commissioned shawls and headbands will be showcased as a part of the 'Inspired by India' exhibition of contemporary design at Sotheby's in London from May 8 to May15, 2012. Commenting on his selection, Mukherjee said, “I’m feeling happy that I am being recognised for being Indian, primarily for being myself. I have always said that the only way to become global is to have a local soul. And I am really happy that this is being validated time and again in my career.” The exhibition is curated by tastemaker Janice Blackburn and designed by Tricia Guild of Designers Guild. He aspires to grow a ‘people tree’ enterprise that encompasses Indian tradition, culture and history and converts it into an intellectually and aesthetically aspirational global super brand.

Mukherjee loves the myriad weaves offered by states of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. And when it comes to his own creations, they are adorned by big names from Bollywood and art and music. He takes pride in providing livelihood to artisans through his business ventures and is moving ahead with plans to hire a designer to take over his role to pursue his passion for designing anything…from hotels, public spaces to making movies music and doing art projects.
