Sabyasachi’s Dubai show draws huge crowd

Celebrated Indian fashion designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee,

known for his designs across borders recently showcased his latest collection of prêt-à-porter wear and bridal designs at an exclusive annual trunk show in Dubai. And his fans gathered at the venue almost two hours in advance to get the glimpse of designs created by him. The designer also made some changes in the collection for the UAE market, since he feels that the women in Dubai are more glamour conscious than their counterparts in India.

Since most of these women follow Bollywood fashion, the designer created the pieces that would help them make a fashion statement. Apart from top Bollywood celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan, even global divas like Oprah Winfrey and Naomi Campbell, and other A-Listers have flaunted saris designed by Sabyasachi.

His collections have won awards and favourable reviews from commentators. After showing several seasons at Milan, New York and London fashion weeks, Mukherjee spread his business - eponymous collections of distinctly Indian fashions - from a global to the local Indian market. For him, one of the reasons behind his brand being so successful is his traditional approach. He feels that though he has been criticised for being repetitive in his designs, a designer cannot be iconic if he is not repetitive.
