Rural artisans of SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association) will walk the ramp in the UK and US to
promote their apparel brand Hansiba. After the success of Ananta: the Flamboyant Stitch fashion show in Ahmedabad, SEWA is planning to put on display its creations in London in August and in a US city in July. The move is expected to establish a platform in the international market for Hansiba. The brand Hansiba is a revolution inspired by Hansibaben – the first rural artisan of SEWA who through her courage and determination inspired SEWA and showed the way to thousands of rural women to pull themselves out of poverty. Hansiba belongs to STFC (SEWA Trade Facilitation Center), a not for profit company jointly owned and managed by over 3,200 rural artisans. Right from the raw material to the final touches, the entire supply chain is made up of rural women. Hansiba as a fashion brand was launched by more than 15,000 women artisans/rural artisans with 100 per cent handcrafted products.
SEWA will travel to Nepal and Bhutan to exhibit Hansiba and other brands. SEWA also plans to expand its existing network of Hansiba stores in south India. To improve Hansiba’s visibility and availability, two new stores will be launched in Bangalore and Hyderabad this year. They already have stores in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi.
