Ahmedabad-based couturier designer duo, Shyamal & Bhumika have opened their new bridal studio at Kemps Corner in Mumbai.

The versatile collection offered at the new store includes ornate wedding wear and lighter ensembles, as well as prêt and semi-formals.

Heavily inspired by a grand 18th century haveli in Gujarat, every corner from the door is a piece of intricate art. A carefully and beautifully designed spiral staircase leads one into the duo's couture world, which reminds of the old world charm. Hinchka chains (used in royal swings) adorned with miniature metal elephants, parrots and peacocks along with Indo-European styled rosewood mirrors are suspended from a 16 foot high ceiling.

Embroideries, hand-woven fabrics and age-old craft techniques blend with different dying arts and crafts of Gujarat like the Amdavadi weaving technique, zardozi, aari, peeta and marodi embroideries. Co-ordinated heirloom looks are available for brides and grooms, eveningwear complimented with a range of hand-embellished trousseau-appropriate accessories. From kalidaars with overlap jackets and ijhaar pants, floor-sweeping gowns and jaama -inspired cholis to lehenga saris and collared blouses, every piece of their work is a fusion of traditional and modern day designs.
