Silk Mark Expo releases two crore silk mark labels

At the Silk Mark Expo 2014 in Madurai, around two crore exclusive labels were released for the public by the
Silk Mark Organization of India, an initiative of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, to make pure silk saris available for customers. The country has around 2,800 dealers authorised to use the silk mark label. Shop owners are entitiled to use the Silk Mark label after getting authorisation from the organisation.The expo displayed a wide range of soft silk saris having designs from 13 states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal, Jammu Kashmir and Chhattisgarh. Some of the designs at the expo are Kantha design from West Bengal and Pochampalli from Andhra Pradesh. There are also varieties of crepe saris from Karnataka and a collection of Banaras silk and tussar silk saris from Chhattisgarh. Apart from silk saris, the expo is also exhibiting varieties of silk shirts, bedspreads and cushions made with pure silk for sale. The specialty of the Silk Mark Expo 2014 is the special choli designed for women.
Last year, Central Silk Board also unveiled a Silk Mark India Fusion Label for the international community. The label is eco-friendly and non-carcinogenic and has ‘Track and Trace’ features through online or SMS service.
