Keeping the wide-spread adulteration in silk products in mind,

Central Silk Board has unveiled a Silk Mark India Fusion Label for the international community. “Silk Mark India is a purity label meant for consumer protection and check counterfeits. As the name suggests, the new label is fused in the fabric and can’t be detached”, said Ishita Roy, Member Secretary Central Silk Board and new Secretary General of Global Silk Body, International Sericulture Commission.

The new Silk Mark India label was unveiled by Zohra Chatterji, Secretary Textiles and Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs. “The label, first of its kind in the world enjoys exclusive patented technology against counterfeiting. Once affixed, the label becomes part of the fabric. Label is temper-proof as it uses nano-technology and can withstand several washes”, Roy added.

The new Silk Mark India labels are eco-friendly and non-carcinogenic. The labels also have ‘Track and Trace’ features through online or SMS service. The government of India will launch an awareness drive to promote the usage of fusion label and weavers’ training for incorporation of new label has started.
