Spencer’s Retail Ltd, the retailing arm of the Rs 13,500 crore RPG Enterprises, has signed an

exclusive tie-up with BHPC International LLC, which owns the world-renowned apparel brand Beverly Hills Polo Club, also known as BHPC.
Beverly Hills was first tie-up for Spencer’s in the international apparel space. In fact, for sometime Spencer’s was scouting globally for an international tie up before finally zeroing in on BHPC. Now Spencer’s has worked out a large business plan for Beverly Hills. It will cover both company-owned and franchise stores. But initially, its aim is to establish the company-owned stores; run them well and then expand it to the other channels. “Right now there are four Beverly Hills stores and Spencer’s plans to open another 16 stores within the next three to four months,” says Sanjiv Goenka, vice chairman, RPG Enterprises. Each store will be 1,200 to 1,600 sq ft.
Spencer’s is also working on supply chain efficiency, streamlining marketing and merchandising. That’s why it has gone slow on BHPC so far. It’s also in talks with a lot of MBOs and large retail chains which are interested in keeping the product.
At present, fashion contributes 10 per cent of Spencer’s revenue. This is expected to increase to 25 to 30 per cent in the coming years.
