The 21st edition of Spinexpo Shanghai, Spring

Summer 2014 will take place at the Shanghai World Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre from March 12 to 14, 2013. The focus this time is on simpler, nomadic lifestyles and wandering cultures. And the influence is evident in the spinners’ offerings this season, expressing a preference for raw materials culled from the traditional Silk Route. The organizers expect 140 high-end exhibitors from 15 countries to participate.

Yarns & Colors, Spring/Summer 2014 takes its direction from gypsies and modern-day nomads, with materials such as jute, ramie, and festive coloured silks. The offerings by these players showcase the demand for nep, loop and fancy yarns, linen yarns with a smooth hand feel; or silk/cotton Taiwan style, silk/cashmere and mulberry silk yarns and yarns with a dry hand, such as Japanese Maruisho Hotta type of yarns, bright silk cotton, viscose/paper and viscose cotton.

For the season, Spinexpo is keeping the spotlight on fibers of alpaca and mohair. Soft and silky, naturally absorbent and therefore, cool in the warmer months, these luxury animal fibers are ideal for light weight knitwear or elegant woven fabrics. A special display area will introduce visitors to the history of both cashmere and alpaca fibers, with focus on what can be made out of each fiber, from yarns spinning to woven and knitted fabrics used for garments or upholstery, accessories, toys and so on. Conceived as a live library, the display area will be located near the spinners’ library and the trend lab corner.

The Yarns & Knitwear Trend Area continues to lead under the banner ‘Evolutions’ with a new design for the central and main trend area presenting knitwear garments and using new seamless technology and new stitches. The area will feature the work of design stylists and studios.
