Stella McCartney appeals for leather free fashion week

Fashion designer Stella McCartney along with PETA

are planning to appeal to fashion lovers across fashion weeks held in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Delhi and Mumbai against the use of animal skins. Through a video, she would pass on her message to prohibit designers and fashionistas from using leather as a part of their collections.

“As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don’t bleed. That’s why I avoid all animal skins. Please join me in exploring the huge variety of fashionable shoes, belts, purses and wallets that aren`t the product of a cow`s violent death,” McCartney says in the video. After revealing the horrors of fur, and she along with PETA wants everyone to learn the facts about leather's extreme cruelty, environmental destruction, and human health costs and pledge never to wear animal skins again.

After learning about the cruel treatment to the animals in the skin trade, many designers like Marc Bouwer, Anita Dongre, Hemant Trevedi, Sanjana Jon and Rina Shah have decided not to use leather, fur and other animal skins this fashion week.

McCartney now operates 17 stand alone stores in locations including Manhattan’s Soho, London’s Mayfair, LA’s West Hollywood, Paris’ Palais Royal and Milan, and recently opened doors in Rome and Miami. Her collections are now distributed in over 50 countries through 600 wholesale accounts including specialty shops and department stores.
