Sudar Garments acquires GSL

Mumbai-based Sudar Garments, a leading producer and exporter of readymade garments

for men, women and kids has acquired George Street London (GSL), an Ahmedabad-based brand that operates through 10 franchise outlets in of Gujarat. Sudar Garments further plans to expand its footprint across India by strengthening its presence in Tier II cities and other key regions. The company proposes to open 15 new outlets along with the launch of new brands South India, Gujarat and Maharashtra. After its latest acquisition, the company is looking to achieve revenues of about Rs 400 million in financial year 2012-13.

Since Sudar Garments has been taking up job-work apparel orders for GSL in Gujarat, it understands the market trends in the area. Now that it has taken over GSL, it will help Sudar to foray in Gujarat region with an immediate access to GSL’s 10 franchise outlets. Amod Gupte, Director, Sudar Garments says the takeover of is a stepping stone towards the entire business approach. Going further, they plan to adopt similar approach of taking over other brands that have a strong presence in terms of number of outlets and its customer base. These takeovers will be mainly executed in Tier II cities.

Sudar will introduce its own brands -- Majesty and St Paul -- to GSL’s customer base in Gujarat. The move was a part of Sudar’s strategy to acquire brands having strong presence in smaller towns.
