Now Indian women need not travel all the way to Surat to grab polyester saris or dress materials and fabrics.

They can simply shop for it at the click of a mouse. For the first time, around 10,000 wholesale traders from Surat, the country’s largest man-made textile hub have registered themselves with an online directory-cum-website being developed by the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) for marketing and promotion of Surti brand fabrics across the country.

There are more than 155 textile markets on the city’s Ring Road and Salabatpura area housing over 55,000 stores. The daily turnover of the textile products stand at about Rs 110 crores. As per FOSTTA office-bearers many leading textile trading firms have joined in to market their products online. The details of the textile traders and their speciality in saris, dress materials, home furnishing and fabrics are being uploaded on the website for the customers’ benefit.

With the online platform, customers spread across India can select merchandise of their choice from a wide basket of exquisite materials. And since most of the traders are wholesalers, customers would also get to enjoy the price benefit compared to the rates at retail stores. Going ahead, even other traders would be invited and persuaded to join the initiative.
