Tata pulls down shutters on Tashi chain

Tata International, which has now decided to shift
its strategy from retal to manufacturing, distribution and trading will shut its footwear retail business Tashi. It plans to close all six stores of the chain. Tata International joins the list of companies, who tried to spread their presence too soon without finding the right success formula to do business in the country.As per the July edition of Tata Review, under the Managing Director, Noel Tata, the company will now shift its focus to a branding and distribution model. Since it has other business interests in steel trading, agricultural trading, auto distribution and leather product manufacturing, Tata International is gradually moving out of retail to focus on manufacturing, distribution and trading.
Footwear label, Tashi was launched in 2010 by Noel Tata, who used to run the Tata Group-owned Trent, the operator of Westside retail stores and Star Bazaar hypermarkets. Tata International is the trading arm of India’s most respected diversified conglomerate having a presence in more than 80 countries. Established in 1962, the company is India’s leading manufacturer, exporter and supply chain integrator of leather and leather products working with the world’s largest brands.
