South Indian movie star turned politician Ramya has partnered with Universal Sportsbiz to design a collection of ethnic
and fusion apparel titled Spandana. The range would be launched exclusively on fashion portal Myntra.com. In October, Universal Sportsbiz plans to launch a men's apparel brand in collaboration with an Indian sports star.Ramya's collection is named after her original name Divya Spandana, which was later changed to her screen name. This is for the first time that the three-year-old Universal Sportsbiz is launching a collection designed by an Indian movie star. Its other brand Collectabillia is focused primarily on sports stars and holds exclusive merchandise rights with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and other Indian sports stars like Virat Kohli and Viswanathan Anand. The company has previously partnered with Yash Raj Films for movie merchandising.
The company has earlier worked on Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan along with mobile phone manufacturer Karbonn. In March, Universal Sportsbiz, along with Bangalore-based digital accessories startup iAccy tied up Lionel Messi for the rights to design, manufacture and sell phone and laptop accessories with the Argentinian football star's images across 80 countries.
