Recently LA Times announced its trendspotting for 2011

with its list of people, fashion and cultural phenomena that are rated as the ‘in’ list this year. No surprises that after the immense coverage of India during the Obama visit and the super successful Danny Boyle film Slumdog Millionaire, India has got itself a cool third spot on this list.

India, with its myriad colors and royalty were always on the radar. This time, Indian saris and jewelry, and even actor Freida Pinto are on the ‘in’ list. While western artists like Akon, Bryan Adams and the Sugababes travel across the globe to visit the country and wow their Indian fans, Hollywood stars are trying to emulate the Indian style as much as they can. Pop icons like Katy Perry and Britney Spears don’t hesitate to show up at award shows looking like Bollywood divas.

So what is less trendy than India in 2011 according to LA Times? 4D, newstalgia or ‘a renewed appreciation of all things retro,’ wood, ballet, crowd-sourcing or e-commerce sites where you can find out what your favorite celebrities like and buy the same items, and last but not least, customer service. There you have it! The things that trend in 2011 according to the LA Times and India is top 3.
