Trent clocks 27.3% sales growth

Trent the leading retail arm of the Tata Group, the largest private corporate group in India,

has posted a net profit of Rs 14 crores for the quarter ended December 31, 2010. In comparison the figure was Rs 15.86 crores in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, thus recording a fall of 11.6 per cent. During this period, Trent witnessed sales growth of 27.3 per cent at Rs 186.96 crores from Rs 146.83 crores in Q3 2010.

The Mumbai-headquartered company, Trent is doing well in the Indian retail circuits, operating many mega-sized lifestyle stores such as Westside, Sisley and Fashion Yatra spread across all the metros as well as Tier I and Tier III towns pan India. Besides these, Trent also operates Star Bazaar a hypermarket in places such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and other cities. In Aug, 2005 Trent acquired a 76 per cent controlling stake in Landmark, a Chennai-based privately owned books and music retailer and completed 100 per cent acquisition in April 2008. Currently, it has over 16 stores across India.

As a part of the Tata Group -- one of the largest Indian multinational with interests in chemicals, steel, automobiles, information technology, communication, power, beverages, hospitality and others -- Trent is growing from strength to strength in the retail circuit.
