Vizag’s first-ever fashion week which kicked off in
style despite a shaky start with women's organisations protesting against the event, came to a sudden end. The organisers cancelled the final day of the show that was scheduled for February 3 since renowned designer James Ferreira’s line had prints of Lord Ganesha — which put off a section of people in Vizag, leading to fresh protests. The charge levelled by the secretary of the city unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Radhakrishan, was that the dresses showcased by Ferreira for the show, had the images of Lord Vinayaka on them. A case was booked under Section 295A of IPC against the organisers of the fashion show. Due to the controversy and news of arrest warrants being issued against the organisers and the designer, the organising committee got in touch with the K Lakshmana Rao, CI III Town Police Station, who directed them to stop the show.
Meanwhile, designer Jatin Kochhar who was to showcase his collection at the finale is disappointed with the turn of events and feels that people should act in a mature way instead of fighting over such petty issues.
