Walmart India, the Indian arm of American giant Walmart Stores, after parting ways with Bharti Retail,

is aggressively pursuing India plans, albeit through cash and carry route. Now, the company has decided to introduce ecommerce platform at all its stores, after it received a buoyant response to the service at Hyderabad and Lucknow stores. Through this service, buyers can simply choose products and place orders online to get them delivered at their doorstep across India.

As per Kris Iyer, President and Chief Executive Officer the retailer plans to roll out the e-commerce option in the remaining 18 stores by January. Also the 50 newly planned stores would have the online option. Plans of introducing mobile applications are also underway to serve the company’s customers better.

Walmart, which is going aggressive with retail expansion of its wholesale stores, is said to be replacing three of the wholesale stores set up by French group Carrefour in India with its own. The French retail major had announced its exit from the country in July. KPMG has been helping the French chain sell its assets and exit India.

Sources say that the American retail giant has cracked a deal with the land owners, for long-term lease deals to take up Carrefour stores in Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. For now, Walmart doesn’t have stores in Delhi and Jaipur, but already has one in Agra. Besides Delhi, Jaipur and Agra, Carrefour had outlets in Bangalore and Meerut.
