Goa-based acclaimed designer Wendell Rodricks, who was recently conferred

with the Padma Shri honour, fourth-highest civilian award, in the category of art (fashion designing) was felicitated during the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week.

Before designer Anita Dongre began displaying her collection, Rodricks was given a bouquet of flowers and standing ovation in presence of celebrities like designer Manish Malhotra, actress Mughda Godse, Vidya Malvade, Neetu Chandra, producer Sahil Sangha and others.

The designer is known for his ability to blend ancient Indian geometry with Goa’s relaxed style. He got trained in Los Angeles and Paris. After designing for companies like Garden Vareli, cosmetic giant Lakme and diamond corporate DeBeers, designer established his own label in 1990.

He has also documented fashion history of Goa through a pictorial book called ‘Moda Goa’ – his tribute to the state. In this book published by HarperCollins India, he says that Goa was the cradle of Indo-Western couture. He felt the need to document Goa’s fashion history through a pictorial presentation when he realised that there was no authentic source on the history of clothes in Goa except some clothes in the Portuguese museum.
