Thanks to the cold wave in most parts of the country,

winterwear retailers are a happy lot. The extreme winters have triggered a boom in business, and apparel retailers such as Woodland, Monte Carlo, ITC Wills Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop and Spencer’s Retail expect 20-50 per cent jump in sales.

Apparel retailers that were witnessing a slump throughout the year due to excise duty, high raw material costs, slowdown woes and low consumer buying sentiment are definitely cheering, since the year-end has brought in the expected hike in profits.

Jackets, simple or hooded, with fur collars-and boots are among the hot sellers as North India shivers under a bitter cold despite the late onset of winter. Windcheaters, pullovers, cardigans and sweater dresses are also doing well, according to these retailers. In fact, retailers are finding it difficult to keep up with the demand with the sudden extreme climatic conditions.
